About us
Who we are
My School, My Rights is an informational resource for students and families to know their rights so Black, Indigenous, Latine, disabled, LGBTQ, and all other students are empowered to speak up for themselves and have the best chance to graduate and thrive.
The information about students’ and families’ rights apply to California’s traditional public schools (unless stated otherwise) and is available on this website in English, Spanish, or Mandarin.
My School, My Rights is a collaboration of the ACLU of Northern California, the ACLU of Southern California, and the ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties and is published by their statewide Education Equity Project. The Education Equity Project’s foremost priority is to ensure that all students can access their constitutional and other rights at school. Unfortunately, California students suffer from discrimination and oppression far too often in school. My School, My Rights is an informational resource for students and families to know their rights so Black, Indigenous, Latine, disabled, LGBTQ, and all other students are empowered to speak up for themselves and have the best chance to graduate and thrive.
If you believe that your rights in California public schools have been violated and you want to contact the ACLU, please contact the ACLU office in your area.
